The new HawaiiArt.com is up and fully operational! We will be in stealth mode until launch day but the only thing left to do is fill the site with beautiful artwork. I hope to finish stocking the site by September 15th and expect to go live October 1st. There are so many amazing features but lets get started with a big one right away.
The new site will be integrated with our new Facebook Page. Not only will artists and customers be able to communicate with each other through this page, but there will also be a built in STORE tab where customers will be able to buy your art in facebook! If you do use facebook, please LIKE this page now for updates and to better connect with HawaiiArt.com artists and potential customers.
Our new product zoom feature gives customers a much better view of what they are buying. The site default upload for images is now a HUGE 1280 x 1280! If you have images smaller then 600pix wide on the current website, please send us higher resolution images ASAP. We will no longer display products that do not have high quality images as they have a detrimental effect on sales. We will be happy to do any image editing if you require it, which is part of the overall service improvement we are offering. We can also arrange for a professional to shoot high resolution images of your work in our Honolulu office.
Over the next three weeks, I will be working with you and sending out online spreadsheets to collect wholesale pricing information on your art. I will also be reflecting these changes in the artist contract. Presently, we collect a 20% commission on all sales. After the new site launches, we will use the wholesale amount you set plus the shipping amount you want to be paid to compensate you. Our retail price will be set by us and added on top of that amount. We have no intention of undercutting other galleries and expect to hear from you if our prices are set too low. This new pricing method gives us the flexibility be competitive, offer discounts, and negotiate with our customers and artists for the best possible price.
Another feature we wanted to do was to create HawaiiArt.com shipping labels. Because we were not able to find a system that could handle multiple labels per order (which we need with HawaiiArt.com) we were not able to offer that feature in this release. Because we are not going to be incurring this additional shipping expense, we are lowering our percentage from 40% as previously mentioned to 35%. Hand-crafters who are not able to keep up with their current demand will have some pricing flexibility due to the challenge of reproducing one-off items.
There will be very little change in the order fulfillment process, but now we have the room to grow. The new office / gallery space for marketing opportunities is in place, and things are looking very promising here in Honolulu. Help us make the transition to the new site a smooth one. Focus on creating and shipping your art, and we will do our part as a gallery that is proud to represent you.
