I am looking for any information I can get on the artist who did this picture. I was told this was a Hawaiian “Mother & Child” done by “Stickney” I believe it says. I love the work and would like to know if there is more out there, if the artist is still alive, and if so could I contact him or her. My cousin got this picture along with another “Mother & Child” done in charcoal, and a smaller “Lady in a Hawaiian dress with long straight hair and a large straw hat. My cousin, Joyce Walzack, was an interior decorator and lived in Hawaii for many years before her death. I believe she got them in the ’50′s or early ’60′s. I appreciate any help I can get. Sincerely, Mickey DHawaiian “Mother & Child” done by Artist “Stickney”

Thanks for sharing this informative post with us . Will visit your blog again.
Glen,
I have a Stickney Hawaiian woman that I inherited from my Aunt who passed away in the 80′s.
She only purchased art that she considered an investment
And told me the piece was quite valuable, other than that I know very little. If you come up with any info, please let me know.
Thanks,
Lani

The artist was my brother, James Stickney. He lived in Hawaii (Hawaii Kai) for many years and did quite a bit of cmmercial artwork there. Sadly, he passed away in the mid-2000s. If you would like more info contact me by E-Mail.
David Stickney, Poulsbo, Washington.
I have a very large painting by James Stickney which is of an Egret type bird.
I purchased it in 1987.
Would anyone know the history of the artist or the painting?
Thanks
Good morning, David.
Would you please tell me more about your dad, James, and his art? My friend and his sister had their childhood etche in charcoal by your dad and I love how he captured them. Do you know of any sources for his work?
Thank you so much,
John Thurber
Aloha e David,
We are so sorry for your brother.
My sister and i were in Hawai’i in November 2008, and we found, in a little art galery in Manoa Valley, Keikie 63/75, with signature James Stickney.
We fall in love with it : a boy embraced by his elder sister, with lei po’o, a crown flower, on their head.
Really beautiful and so pure painting…
We would say Mahalo a nui, thanks a lot, to your brother James, to share the beauty of the island…

Did your brother do charcoal or oil? Were his paintings on exhibit, if so, where? What were his specialties – watercolor, oil or a mixture?
I do admire and treasure his works!
I also have a nice charcoal drawing of a young boy and girl. I would be interested in knowing more about your brother. I would say we got ours in the early 80s. Mahalo from Hawaii Kai.
Amazing art work! Are you related to Michael Stickney, I have a couple of his prints and they to are amazing. So sorry to here of your brothers passing!
Is there a place to purchase his artwork?
David: I have been searching for info on your brother’s art…am so glad I came upon your reply re: your brother. I have 4 prints my mom purchased on one of her first trips to Hawaii in the 1970s. I love his style and would like to know more about James and his art. I will be looking forward to any information you can supply — including where any of his prints are still available. Thank you in advance your response! S Jacobson
Aloha David,
Found a drawing by your brother at the local Goodwill today and was intrigue by his work. The drawing is that of the Hawaiian girl and boy. It looks like it might be a copy but the signature looks authentic. Im originally from the islands so I immediately fell in love with the drawings. Is there another site where I can learn more about his work?
Sorry, David, your brother.
Does anyone know if his works appear in any galleries or auctions?
Does anyone know if there is a relative of James by the name Michael Stickney. I pruchased two charcoal sketches of animals and an amazing trapping sketch in the 80′s . They were 120/200 I would love to see more of his work. I must say the pic’s of James are breath taking! Would love to see more of those as well, would welcome any response
I recently purchased a sketch of a hawaiian boy and girl. Beautiful!
It is signed Stickney. First name? Am interested in purchasing more. Where can they be found? How much for an original charcoal sketch?
Hi Jean. I cannot add much more to your search. However, I have a print of a girl that is signed by Stickney. I was made aware of this artist by a Hawaiian friend of mine that knew him personally. In fact, Stickney sent out cards of his art to these friends every year for several years (I would say at least 16-20). When i was staying with my Hawaiian friends they were in the process of framing their wonderful collection in order to display during the Christmas season. I felt honoured to hold them in my hand. So, when I saw my print in a collectors shop in Kailua (I thought it was an original to begin with), I recognized his distinctive charcoal style and purchased it. My friend has I think three originals works, one or two of which my friend asked Stickney to do some highlights in white charcoal; which made them outstanding…and maybe somewhat unique. (I certainly am NOT and expert, but that is what I believe my friend indicated.) Stickney was a commercial artist originally.
I have a , Hawaiian Woman that I would
sell, but I have no idea what fair value is.
I dont think the artist is still alive. I inherited
the piece from my Aunt. She had it for many
years and passed away 20 years ago.
Let me know if you get any further info.
