I am looking for a artist named June Egan her Tongan name was sune? June did tapa cloth in her paintings by pounding inner bark of the paper mulberry tree against a flatten log with a wooden mallet using a brown dye called tongo. I have 4 of her art works now I am trying to locate some more. June had a show in 1977 at LeMaroi Gallery in which she sold sixty of her art pieces during one month showing. She is Australian born I believe. I would appreciate any information you may have in the comment section below. Diana Leffler

June ‘Sune’ Egan is my mother and has only recently returned to Australia and presently resides in Sydney. She lived over thirty years in Tonga and became resident artist to her Majesty Queen Halaevalu Mata’aho. She is in semi-retirement but still an active artist. I am still living in Tonga with my family. You are wellcome to e-mail me directly if you wish any further information.
Regards,
Shane.

Sune pioneered the use of tapacloth and bark (tongo) dye for representational drybrush painting.

I bought those 4 pictures in early eighties at a thrift store in Florida gave 150.00 for all I do not know if that was a good price or not. I just love the pictures. My question to you is if I reframe tem will that take away from there value of course I have no idea what they are worth. I am getting ready to take them back to Florida to our winter home. I will try to sent you a picture of them. But I need a e-mailaddress. Diana Leffler
